Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our dynamic team. As an Inpatient Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately reviewing and coding inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and other coding classifications in accordance with coding guidelines and healthcare regulations. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with all coding standards while collaborating with various departments to support the organization’s operational, clinical, and financial needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient medical records based on clinical documentation.
  • Review and analyze patient charts and medical records to ensure complete and accurate coding.
  • Utilize EPIC software for coding and documentation review, ensuring all coding processes meet organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable coding regulations and policies.
  • Assist with coding audits and resolve discrepancies identified during audits.

Education:
Essential:

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management, or successful completion of a Technical School Coding Training Program required.
  • Completion of advanced coding classes in ICD-10-CM at an accredited college or vocational school. 

Experience:
Essential:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using EPIC electronic health record (EHR) software is strongly preferred.

Credentials:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) upon hire is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency with EPIC or other EHR software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists and other team members.
