Summary:

The Director of Physician Recruitment and Onboarding is responsible for leading and executing comprehensive strategies to attract, recruit, hire, and successfully onboard physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) across a large, multispecialty medical group. This role ensures the organization meets current and future provider workforce needs while delivering a high-quality, efficient, and physician-centered recruitment and onboarding experience. The Director partners closely with physician leadership, operations, HR, legal, credentialing, payor enrollment, marketing, and finance to align recruitment efforts with organizational growth, access, and quality goals.

Responsibilities:

1. STRATEGY & PLANNING:

  • Support department specific operational plans through specified initiatives and programs. Scan the environment to evaluate potential opportunities and threats which affect the department.
  • Develop and implement a system-wide physician and APP recruitment strategy aligned with organizational growth plans and service line priorities.
  • Design, lead, and continuously improve a comprehensive, system-wide provider onboarding program that supports clinical readiness, operational efficiency, physician engagement, and long-term retention.
  • Analyze workforce data, market trends, and provider supply/demand to anticipate hiring needs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and physician leaders on recruitment strategy and workforce planning.

2. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: Responsible for managing the effective and efficient execution of department operations.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and governmental requirements.
  • Ensure adequate management of department plans consistent with Broward Health policies and objectives.
  • Establish values, performance expectations and address remediation plans as necessary to further assist in operation improvement within the department.
  • Review departmental plans’ impact of existing and new department-specific programs and/or regulatory actions and direct formulation of department objectives to accomplish goals.
  • Execute and manage department remediation plans to ensure positive outcomes and goal achievement.
  • Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive onboarding program that supports physician engagement, productivity, and retention.
  • Partner with credentialing, compliance, IT, operations, and clinical leadership to ensure seamless onboarding.
  • Develop onboarding timelines, checklists, and best practices to ensure physicians are fully prepared for clinical practice.
  • Support cultural integration and alignment with organizational mission, values, and clinical standards.
  • Collaborate closely with department chairs, medical directors, and practice leaders to define recruitment needs and candidate profiles.
  • Facilitate interview processes and support physician leaders in candidate evaluation and selection.
  • Serve as a key liaison between recruited providers and internal teams throughout recruitment and onboarding.

3. LEADERSHIP: Establish and maintain positive, productive and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to support an engaged and inclusive culture and advance the Broward Health mission, vision, strategic objectives and business goals.

  • Demonstrate understanding and exhibit system thinking in achieving department goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of physician recruiters and onboarding specialists.
  • Establish performance goals, workflows, and professional development plans for team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

4. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Accountable for the key financial indicators of department; plan and evaluate assigned areas’ fiscal function and performance.

  • Demonstrate financial acumen and fiscal responsibility and exhibit accountability for efficient and effective operations.
  • Responsible for the administration of financial outcomes for the department.
  • Ensure recruitment and onboarding practices comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, including recruitment expenses and vendor contracts.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve recruitment and onboarding processes through data analysis and feedback.

5. HUMAN RESOURCES: Oversee the effective utilization of Broward Health’s employee partners/workforce throughout the system; manage change, and align people, processes and practices for success.

  • Create and maintain an effective, collaborative, engaged, inclusive team with an emphasis on open, direct and honest communication which supports employee engagement, retention, system thinking, regional performance and market success.
  • Promote and model an environment and culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values a commitment to quality through coaching and managerial oversight of staff performance and development.
  • Provide and foster a positive and engaged employee environment through consistency and uniformity in application and interpretation of governing policies, practices and all terms and conditions of employment.

  • Oversees all recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Ensure a consistent, equitable, and high-quality candidate experience across all specialties.
  • Manage relationships with search firms, job boards, academic institutions, and professional organizations.
  • Monitor recruitment metrics such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, candidate satisfaction, and retention outcomes. 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 7-10+ years of progressive experience in physician or provider recruitment including at least 3 years of leadership / management experience is required, preferably in a large multispecialty or academic medical group.

Credentials:

  • Professional certification (e.g., SHRM, HRCI) preferred.
